Ask what a restore needs to prove for the business, then check the copies, access and dependencies behind it. This guide helps IT teams prepare a representative restoration test and the evidence needed to assess recovery readiness.
Identify the recovery inputs
List the data, applications, credentials, encryption keys and infrastructure needed for restoration. Define copy locations and retention. Access to a backup alone does not supply every dependency required to run the service.
Test a representative restore
AWS reliability guidance treats backup as part of recovery planning. Select a test that checks the agreed data and workload, not just a job status. Record exceptions and the actions needed before relying on the recovery objective.
Maintain the runbook
Name recovery decision owners and the required order of systems. Review the plan after configuration or workload changes. A numerical RPO or RTO commitment needs an agreed design and evidence, not a generic product feature.

Can a generic tool guarantee our recovery time?
