Check what can be restored and what needs attention. Connect backup design, business recovery priorities and practical restoration tests.

Plan backup and recovery

Decide what the business needs to recover, then demonstrate the agreed restore path. Express Projects plans backup requirements, maps recovery dependencies and coordinates restoration checks. Your handover records the evidence, remaining actions and responsibilities needed to keep the plan usable.

What to prepare

  • Critical business functions, workloads and data dependencies
  • Existing backups, retention, copy locations and access ownership
  • Required recovery objectives and authorized business contacts

What you receive

  • Backup design and dependency-based recovery objectives
  • Restore-test evidence, exceptions and assigned actions
  • Recovery runbook, test schedule and operating ownership

Restore test

A successful backup job is one input. A restore test checks that the required data, identity and network dependencies can work together again.

Conceptual planning view. Final architecture is agreed for the project.

Set recovery priorities and copy requirements

Identify critical workloads, data dependencies, retention and recovery objectives. Assess off-site or immutable copies where appropriate to the platform and threat model. Confirm access, encryption-key ownership and the people who can approve restoration.

Test the restore path

Agree representative restore tests and the infrastructure needed to run them. Record backup availability, recovered data checks and application dependencies. RPO and RTO are design and acceptance objectives; no numerical commitment is made before agreed design and testing.

Prepare a runbook people can use

Document recovery order, contacts, decision points and return-to-normal procedures. Assign backup monitoring, test scheduling and runbook updates. Changes to applications or infrastructure should trigger review of the recovery plan.

Questions before you start

Check what can be restored and what needs attention. Connect backup design, business recovery priorities and practical restoration tests.

Do successful backups prove we can recover?

No. Restore testing must check the agreed data and system dependencies, not only whether the backup job completed.

Can you promise a specific recovery time?

A commitment requires agreed architecture, dependencies and demonstrated testing. Start by sharing the business target for assessment.
