Plan a virtualization project

Give shared infrastructure a design that fits the workloads it must support. Express Projects assesses host, storage and network dependencies, plans the transition and documents the resulting environment. Licensing, platform support and recovery responsibilities are resolved as part of the decision.

What to prepare

  • Host, storage, network and virtual-machine inventory
  • Workload capacity, placement and recovery requirements
  • Platform licenses, existing support and permitted change windows

What you receive

  • Compatibility and dependency findings for the shared infrastructure
  • Workload placement, transition and validation plan
  • Configuration, capacity and recovery operating baseline

Place each workload using its dependencies, data needs and operating model. Account boundaries and regional availability need their own checks.

Conceptual planning view. Final architecture is agreed for the project.

Assess the full virtualization stack

Review physical hosts, storage paths, network dependencies, workload sizing and licensing. Check the chosen platform’s compatibility and lifecycle. Product compatibility does not by itself confirm that a particular support service is contracted.

Place workloads and control the transition

Compare consolidation, on-site placement and cloud integration against capacity, data location and operating needs. Sequence changes around shared dependencies, management access and recovery arrangements. Agree validation and rollback before moving production workloads.

Handover management and recovery routines

Document host and workload placement, configuration references and capacity assumptions. Assign patching, resource monitoring, backup and restoration responsibilities. Changes to one shared layer should be reviewed for their effect on the other workloads.

Questions before you start

Match virtual and hybrid infrastructure to your workloads, with capacity, compatibility, licensing and recovery assessed before the change.

Does a compatibility check prove ongoing support is included?

No. Technical compatibility and the customer’s vendor or service support contracts are separate matters.

Must all workloads move to the cloud?

No. Placement is assessed workload by workload against dependencies, requirements and the operating model.
