Plan a server deployment

Put servers into service with a baseline your team can maintain. Express Projects connects installation and platform configuration with storage, networking, access controls and workload checks. Choose a deployment project, continuing management or a planned transition between the two.

What to prepare

  • Workload requirements, capacity needs and existing platform details
  • Server, storage and network inventory with licensing arrangements
  • Access approvers, acceptance checks and maintenance windows

What you receive

  • Installed server and platform configuration baseline
  • Infrastructure checks and workload-owner acceptance findings
  • Maintenance, monitoring and escalation responsibilities

Approved scope

Confirm rack dimensions, power allocation, cable paths and access before installation. Facility and specialist-contractor tasks have separate owners.

Conceptual planning view. Final architecture is agreed for the project.

Check the platform before installation

Review workloads, hardware models, firmware compatibility, storage and network requirements. Identify the operating system or hypervisor and its licensing. IBM platform architecture must be assessed explicitly; an x86 deployment checklist is not interchangeable with every IBM system.

Build and verify the agreed baseline

Agree the required racking, firmware settings, storage configuration, operating system or hypervisor, and remote-management access. Capture software versions, configuration decisions and exceptions. Infrastructure checks and workload-owner validation form the acceptance record; the handover identifies the next operating owner.

Define who maintains each layer

Allocate monitoring, patch approval, maintenance windows, backups and incident escalation. Hardware warranty, vendor support and day-to-day administration are separate responsibilities. Recurring management begins with an agreed asset list and service scope.

Questions before you start

Put physical and virtual servers to work with installation, configuration, workload validation and the management your environment needs.

Can physical and virtual servers be included?

Both can be assessed, with separate host, virtual-machine and application responsibilities. The supported products and tasks must be named in the scope.

Does management include the manufacturer’s warranty?

No automatic warranty or authorized-support claim is made. Confirm the existing warranty and vendor arrangements alongside the management agreement.
