Plan a data center refresh

Use an infrastructure refresh to improve how the environment is run. Express Projects connects the current architecture, target design and migration sequence so your team can decide what to retain, replace or consolidate. Configuration evidence and an operating handover support the change beyond the equipment order.

What to prepare

  • Current architecture, workload inventory and lifecycle constraints
  • Capacity, supportability and business interruption requirements
  • Recovery arrangements, change approvals and retirement owners

What you receive

  • Current-to-target design and compatibility decisions
  • Phased transition, workload validation and rollback plan
  • Accepted operating baseline and authorized retirement actions

Approved scope

Confirm rack dimensions, power allocation, cable paths and access before installation. Facility and specialist-contractor tasks have separate owners.

Understand the current and target architecture

Inventory servers, storage, network paths, software versions and workloads. Assess compatibility and lifecycle dependencies before choosing replacement equipment. Decide what is retained, consolidated, virtualized or moved, with the customer’s technical owners approving the target.

Sequence the transition around workloads

Prepare new capacity, connectivity and management access before moving dependent services. Define backup checks, change windows, validation and rollback for each phase. Physical equipment replacement and application migration remain distinct tasks even when coordinated.

Retire old systems only after acceptance

Record tests, residual dependencies and the approved decision to decommission. Allocate data retention or disposal, asset records and warranty or support updates to the responsible parties. Handover should describe the new operating baseline and remaining risks.

Questions before you start

Plan an infrastructure refresh around capacity and supportability, with clear retain-or-replace decisions and a phased workload transition.

Must modernization replace everything?

No. Retention and replacement decisions follow compatibility, capacity, lifecycle and operating requirements.

When can old systems be removed?

After agreed acceptance and review of remaining dependencies, with data handling and decommissioning authorized by the responsible owner.
